Daniel is a marine biology PhD student in Australia. His interest in photography has developed alongside his passion for science.
In this beautiful gallery Daniel has captured images of a variety of coral species. Their fluorescence is usually invisible to the naked eye.
He has created these images using a time-lapse technique, stereoscopic and focus stacked photos and by illuminating the corals with full spectrum light to reveal their fluorescent pigments.
“When exposed to strobe light the corals look plain, but when the spectrum of light is shifted towards blue an entire rainbow of colours is revealed,” he says.
Daniel’s equipment: Canon EOS 7D, Canon EOS 5D Mk III, Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens, custom spectrum lamp.
